Managers Coaching Kit

Learning Short-takes

Welcome to the Manager's Coaching Kit

Deciding on appropriate training and development for an individual or an entire team is a skill in itself, however few Managers are formally taught this process. Once the decision has been made the Manager plays a vital role in supporting and motivating employees throughout the entire process of learning and development. How a Manager sets up the training, talks to employees before the learning, then how they work with the employee after the learning plays an important role in the amount of learning the employee transfers to their job.

All training requires a return on investment by way of an improvement in employee skills and or knowledge. This improvement is generally referred to in the corporate training profession as 'a change in behavior'. It should be the expectation of all Managers that after participants have attended any type of training or have completed a module of learning (such as a Learning Short-take™) that 'something will be done differently as a result'. 'Something different' means that a change of behavior has taken place.

This Manager's Coaching Kit will support all Managers, whether experienced or new to the role, to assist individuals and teams when embarking on professional development. Find out how critical the Managers' role is before, during and after employees attend training, or engage in any other method of learning.

How involved a Manager is in the learning process could be the difference for the company's return on its training investment. TPC refers to Learning Short-takes™ as a type of Partnership Learning. For other types of training, Partnership Learning may also apply. Partnership Learning means that the Manager partners with his or her employee before, during, and after the learning to maximize the change of behavior. More information on Partnership Learning can be gained from the Learning Short-take™: Managing for Performance. Click here to order this Learning Short-take™.
