Training in the last 12 months has changed globally. Never before in our living history have we seen corporate trainers asked to do so much with less. Trainers are no longer just found at the front of a classroom they are part of the JTT (Juggling Trainers Troupe)!
The ever increasing size of the JTT juggle tasks such as performance consulting, instructional design, up-front delivery and measuring training results as well as being expected to be technical wizards creating modules of e-learning, recording and publishing podcasts, managing social networks like Facebook and groups on Linkedin and keeping in touch with participants, colleagues and business partners via Twitter.
To test the resolve of trainers, the JTT is becoming more complex with organizations throwing more balls into the juggle on a seemingly daily basis as organizations flex to meet external and internal challenges.

Secrets of Training Success: How to reduce Design Time and Simultaneously increase participant retention and application" at the Feb 13th breakfast meeting.
Approximately 40 ASTD Conejo Valley members attended a breakfast meeting with Catherine Mattiske hosted by Farmers Insurance on February 13th, 2009. Catherine's presentation focused on increasing the quality of instructional design while simultaneously reducing design time. Mattiske said "The Instructional Design Ratio" is a forgotten training metric, "People don't always accurately count the number of hours it takes to design a training program".
Mattiske recounted a story of a client whose instructional designers and trainers wholeheartedly said that their i.d. ratio was 3:1 (i.e. three hours of design time to 1 hour of delivery), yet when they actually measured it over a period of 3 months, the ratio was approximately 90:1! The same client implemented Mattiske's ID9 process, certified 25 designers and trainers*. Within six months the ratio reduced and stabilized at an average of 25:1, saving millions of dollars for their organization.
In these times of economic challenges, becoming certified in ID9 increases instructional design quality, reduces design time and most importantly saves corporate training dollars.
*ID9 certification is only offered by TPC

Mattiske's High Performance Learning Model™ is essential for corporate trainers, instructional designers and performance consultants when undertaking needs analysis, design and training delivery. TPC - The Performance Company is committed to the improvement and retention of learning for Individuals and their Managers.
TPC's CEO Catherine Mattiske is making a generous, limited time offer to all Individuals, Managers, HR Professionals and Training Professionals to download FREE 'Manager's Coaching Kit'.
Catherine said, "All training requires a return on investment by way of an improvement in employee skills and or knowledge. This improvement is generally referred to in the corporate training profession as 'a change in behavior'. It should be the expectation of all Managers that after participants have attended any type of training or have completed a module of learning (such as our Learning Short-takes™) that 'something will be done differently as a result'. 'Something different' means that a change of behavior has taken place. How involved a Manager is in the learning process could be the difference for the company's return on its training investment". Catherine added, "TPC refers to Learning Short-takes™ as a type of Partnership Learning. For other types of training, Partnership Learning may also apply. Partnership Learning means that the Manager partners with his or her employee before, during, and after the learning to maximize the change of behavior".
