Internal Performance Consulting - Needs Identification Process

1. Learning Request Tool
The Learning Request Tool is a conversation guide and checksheet to make certain that business objectives are identified and approved prior to any training development or implementation taking place. This ensures that all training activities are specifically linked to the organization's business priorities.

2. Data Collection Sheet
The purpose of the Data Collection Sheet is to canvas and record input from various business sources in relation to an identified training need.

3. Sign Off of Performance Objectives
The Sign Off of Performance Objectives tool ensures that all training development and implementation to be undertaken has been reviewed and approved by key stakeholders and relevant parties, in line with business and performance objectives.

4. Course Outline
The Course Outline provides business managers with an overview of the learning objectives, content, and structure of the course. It is a trainer's contract with both the business and the participant.

5. Running Sheet
The purpose of the Running Sheet is to establish the general framework of the course, prior to preparing the Trainers Guide. The running sheet is the core design tool for the program incorporating the course flow, training method and the content of the program.

6. Trainer's Guide
The Trainer's Guide provides the trainer with a detailed description of the course from start to finish. It enables the trainer to globally share course materials and avoid duplication of effort. It provides specific instructions on both training content and the method by which the course is delivered. It is not intended to teach the trainer the subject matter.

7. Participant Guide
The Participant Guide enhances the learning process by providing participants with a reference of key learning concepts and a workbook style format with activities that can be accessed both during the course and post course.

8. Room Checklist
The Room Checklist ensures all necessary room arrangements and equipment is in place to facilitate smooth delivery of the course. Ensuring an effective room set up assists both trainer and participant.

9. Logistics List
The logistic List is a complete list of course specific items that need to be 'packed' prior to the course being conducted.

Pre-Course Tools

10. "Welcome Pack"
The purpose of the Welcome Pack is to ensure that participants receive all necessary logistical and program information prior to attending the course.

11. Manager's Briefing
The purpose of the Manager's Briefing is to ensure that managers understand the course objectives and have discussed how skills and knowledge acquired during the program are to be implemented by participants on the job.

12. Learning Agreement
The purpose of the Learning Agreement is to ensure that participants return to work on completion of the course, with a real action plan of how they will implement what has been learned.

13. Participant's Checklist
The Participant's Checklist is to provide the trainer with an understanding of how much participants already know of the course subject, prior to attendance. This tool can also be used post course as a follow-up to see how participants believe their skills have developed following the training.

14. Learning Assignment
The Learning Assignment enables participants to maximize their learning in the course and further develop their skills and knowledge in line with business priorities.

Post-Course Tools

15. Trainer's Report
Allows the trainer the opportunity to provide feedback on the course, note required course updates and evaluate his or her own performance.

16. Post-Course Review Meeting
The purpose of the meeting is to report on the results of the training, and modify course objectives and content as required, to better suit the changing needs of the business.

17. Course Audit and Coaching Tool
The Course Audit and Coaching Tool provides objective feedback on the presentation and delivery of a course by a third party.
