What is Instructional Design?

Instructional design is the practice of arranging content to help learners and corporate trainers transfer knowledge most effectively. The process consists broadly of determining the current state of learner understanding, defining the end goal of instruction, and creating an "intervention" to assist in the transition. All learning interventions that TPC design are based on adult learning principles. The intervention could be face-to-face training (instructor led), distance learning (e.g. Learning Short-takes™) ranging from multi-day programs to short sessions designed for conferences and meetings. The outcome of good instructional design will create an observable behavior change in the workplace. Instructional designers are also called course developers. Corporate trainers sometimes combine both the role of instructional designer and trainer, that is, they write the training program then deliver it.

We'll write your training for you! TPC Instructional Design Services writes training programs for clients, using client's subject matter. TPC designed courses are built on Mattiske's 9-step Instructional Design Process - ID9™.

Each program is fully documented in a comprehensive instructor kit, which ensures that the program is easy to train, participant retention is high, and application of new skill or knowledge by participants after the course is maximized. Our Instructional Design ensures learning is facilitated and results are delivered. We work with the client SME (Subject Matter Expert), write the program, and then train our clients' internal trainers to deliver the program confidently for success.

You can become certified in ID9™ TPC offers a range of ID9™ Certification programs. As part of TPC's Global Learning Platform™ (GLP), you can become certified as an ID9™ instructional designer in two ways: Generalist or Specialist. Generalist Certification includes all parts of the GLP™ - Internal Performance Consulting, ID9™ and Training Delivery. Specialist Certification focuses exclusively on ID9™.
